The New Brunswick Arts Board (artsnb) is an arm’s length independent arts funding agency based in Fredericton.[1] The legislated mandate of the board includes the facilitation and creation of art, as well as the administration of funding programs for professional artists in the province. [2] artsnb was established in 1989 as part of the New Brunswick government’s fine arts policy and was created under auspices of the New Brunswick Arts Board Act of 1991. [3] The autonomy and areas of responsibility of the Board were extended through the Act in 1999.

artsnb is governed by a volunteer board comprised of nine voting members. The board represents the various artistic disciplines, as well as the linguistic and aboriginal communities within the five regions of the province.[4]

artsnb offers funding under eight different programs, including creative residencies, scholarships, and career development programs.[5] These programs are open to a variety of artistic disciplines including architecture, literary arts, theatre, music, dance, media arts, multidisciplinary arts, fine craft and visual arts. [6] All funding decisions are determined through peer assessment, generally through a jury process. artsnb is also responsible for administering the Lieutenant-Governor’s Awards for High Achievement in the Arts.
