Early Life and Education
Arun Ajikumar, originally from Kochi, Kerala, began his involvement in the performing arts during his school years, participating in productions by Lokadharmi[6], a prominent theatre collective based in Kochi. In addition to his interest in theatre, he pursued studies in holistic practices, completing a diploma in Ashtanga Yoga and Yoga Therapy. He initially enrolled in a Commerce program at Bharata Matha College, Thrikkakara, but later discontinued his studies to focus on a career in the creative and performing arts.
Career
Arun Ajikumar began his involvement in acting at a young age, performing with various theatre groups in Kochi, including Lokadharmi, a noted collective known for its emphasis on physical theatre. These early experiences helped shape his interest in performance and storytelling.[7]
During his teenage years, he transitioned from stage to screen, appearing in short films, television commercials, and Malayalam-language films. His performances were noted for their subtlety and realism, attributed to his foundational training in theatre.[8]
In 2011, he appeared in a short film directed by Jude Anthany Joseph (known for Om Shanthi Oshaana and 2018)[9], based on the life of actor Mammootty. This was one of his earliest on-screen roles and demonstrated his focus on character-driven performance.
He made his feature film debut in School Bus (2016), a Malayalam thriller directed by Rosshan Andrrews and written by the screenwriting duo Bobby–Sanjay. He played a supporting role alongside actors Jayasurya and Kunchacko Boban.[10]
He continued to work in various film and web projects over the following years[11]. In 2021, he appeared in Madhuram, directed by Ahammed Khabeer. In 2023, he played a supporting role as Guinness in Pookkaalam, a Malayalam film directed by Ganesh Raj. The role was noted for its light-hearted and humorous tone[12] . That same year, he was featured in the Tamil-language anthology series Modern Love Chennai.[13]
In 2024, Ajikumar portrayed an antagonist in the investigative crime drama Anweshippin Kandethum, and made his Hindi film debut in Do Aur Do Pyaar, portraying the character C.R. Surya.[14]
In Little Hearts (2024), he played a supporting role as Power Bhai.[15] His performance was noted by critics for its natural screen presence and comic timing. In the same year, he played Nakul, one of the central characters in Padakkalam, a role that received attention for its intensity and grounded portrayal.[16]
Aesthetic Kunjamma
In 2020, during the COVID-19 lockdown, Arun Ajikumar launched an Instagram page titled Aesthetic Kunjamma[17][18][19], which featured reimagined film posters blending elements of Eastern and Western cinema. The page gained rapid popularity, amassing over 46,000 followers within three months. The work produced under this initiative led to collaborations within the Malayalam film industry, including the official poster design for the film Veyil[20][21] and the poster design for Bramayugam.[22]
The collective received media attention for its visual contributions to films, notably for the 2024 Malayalam film Bramayugam. The posters garnered viral traction on social media and were featured in publications such as The Hindu, The Times of India and Onmanorama for their distinctive design style and visual interpretation.[23][24]
In July 2022, Ajikumar co-founded Aesthetic Kunjamma Private Limited, where he serves as a director alongside Deepak Jyothibasu.
