Arun Kumar Mehta
Arun Kumar Mehta is an IAS officer of 1988 batch, served as Chief Secretary[1] of Government of Jammu and Kashmir between 31st of May 2021 to November 2023. Earlier, he had served as the Additional Chief Secretary (Financial Commissioner), Finance department, in J&K Govt.[2] between 1st of March 2019 and May 2021. He previously served as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, besides Joint Secretary[3] at the Ministry of Urban Development,Government of India.
Early life and education
Mehta comes from Bihar. He has a B.Tech degree from IIT BHU and M. Tech from IIT Delhi. He did a Ph.D from School and Planning and Architecture. He joined IAS on 25th August in 1988 and was assigned[4][5][6] to the J&K state cadre.
Awards
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi conferred the Award for Excellence in Public Administration[7] to Mehta on the occasion of the 16th Civil Services Day celebrations at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.
- Mehta also received the prestigious Best Performing State & UT award from Prime Minister Narendra Modi[8]
