Aruna Shankar (अरूणा शंकर) is an Indian politician belonging to Bhartiya Janta Party. Shankar is the current Mayor of the city of Medininagar in the Indian state of Jharkhand.
Biography[edit]
Aruna Shankar defeated independent candidate Punam Singh to became the mayor of Medininagar Municipal Corporation (MMC) on April 20, 2018.[1][2][3] Shankar won by 4,533 votes. She received 15,944 votes to Singh's 11,401 votes.[4] She has said she would like to make the city clean and beautiful for everyone.[5][6] She stated her first priority as mayor is to clean up the city and improve the city's water.[7] She would also like to clean the Koyal River, fix the roads, improve the electrical grid, and make healthcare and education more widely available.[8][9]
Shankar is married to Anand Shankar, a businessman from Daltonganj city. She has served as Chairman of Jyotiprakash BEd. College.[10]
