As You Know
As You Know is a data-driven environmental, social, and governance (ESG) benefit corporation founded in 2022. It originated as a spin-off from the nonprofit organization As You Sow, with a focus on licensing ESG and DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) datasets to institutional investors. Headquartered in Berkeley, California, As You Know operates internationally and is led by CEO Meri Podzic.
History
As You Know was established in 2022 by spinning off ESG data initiatives from As You Sow. According to a June 2022 article in Forbes, As You Sow CEO Andrew Behar described the move as an effort to “license all of our data to a startup benefit corporation we spun out called As You Know.”[1]
One of the company's first data partnerships was with Xponance, allowing for the development of racial justice-aligned investment strategies.[2]
Mission and Operations
As You Know provides ESG and DEI data through quarterly scorecards and custom analytics. The data is compiled from advocacy organizations and manually validated to support socially responsible investing. Clients include institutional investors, universities, and ESG-oriented asset managers. The company’s platform operates with a 50–50 revenue sharing model with contributing nonprofits, such as As You Sow and Adasina Social Capital, to compensate data providers.[3]
Recognition and Industry Coverage
The company's model and purpose gained attention amid increasing scrutiny of ESG investing in the United States. Reuters reported in late 2024 that the majority of S&P 500 firms were continuing to expand ESG disclosures despite political resistance.[4] In 2025, Forbes again referenced As You Know in coverage on ESG trends and data monetization.[5]
As You Know's DEI datasets were cited by Fast Company when it named As You Sow's "Racial Justice Scorecard" one of the most innovative nonprofit tools of 2022.[6]
Leadership
CEO Meri Podzic, a former international development official, leads the organization from its European hub in Vienna.[7] She has previously worked with the United Nations and World Bank. The board includes Andrew Behar (CEO of As You Sow), Cecily Joseph (former Symantec Chief Diversity Officer), and Brady Quirk-Garvan and Meme Scherr, all of whom bring experience in social enterprise and sustainability.[3]
