Asagiro (アサギロ~浅葱狼~ Asagiro - Asagi Ōkami) is a Japanese historical manga series written and illustrated by Minoru Hiramatsu. It has been serialized in Shogakukan's shōnen manga magazine Monthly Shōnen Sunday magazine since May 2009. As of November 2020, the chapters have been compiled into twenty-three tankōbon volumes.
Plot
The story is set in 1854, near the end of Edo period Japan. Sojiro Okita, a twelve-year-old boy, is known to be an outstanding prodigy in sword-wielding. With wooden swords, he wins a demonstration against an instructor, who does not take him seriously at first. The instructor, out of shame, kills himself after the battle. There, Okita learns of the intricacies of politics and court politeness that can even be deadlier than a blade.
Publication
Asagiro is written and illustrated by Minoru Hiramatsu. The series began in the first issue of Shogakukan's Monthly Shōnen Sunday, released on May 12, 2009.[2] Shogakukan has collected its chapters into individual tankōbon volumes. The first volume was released on December 12, 2009.[3] As of May 12, 2021, twenty-three volumes have been released.[4]
