Asche is a suburb in the Northern Territory of Australia located in the Litchfield Municipality about 23 kilometres (14 mi) south-east of Darwin City. The suburb forms part of the Greater Holtze urban development area and includes the Palmerston Regional Hospital health precinct together with land planned for future residential development.[1]
It is on the traditional Country of the Larrakia people.
Asche was gazetted as a suburb on 10 September 2025.[1] The suburb is named in honour of Dr Leila Valerie (Val) Asche AM, a microbiologist and researcher who moved to Darwin in 1986 and worked as a Senior Research Officer at the Menzies School of Health Research and as a sessional microbiologist at Royal Darwin Hospital. Dr Asche made significant contributions to research into Territory diseases and was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for her services to science and the Northern Territory community.[1]
The suburb was created as the first urban suburb within the Greater Holtze Area Plan to distinguish the new residential and health precinct from the surrounding rural locality of Holtze and to provide a separate administrative identity for the developing community.[7]
Asche is located within the local government area of the Litchfield Municipality.
