Ash Pachauri (born 26 June 1980, North Carolina, USA) is scientist and researcher in behavior, health, sustainable development, and knowledge management.
He’s mostly known for his implications in climate action and for being the Co-Founder and Senior Mentor of the POP (Protect Our Planet) Movement; the Founder and CEO of Center for Human Progress (CHP); the Treasurer, Secretary and Board Member of the World Sustainable Development Forum (WSDF); and a Technical Advisor to the World Health Organization (WHO) on Self-care for Universal Health Coverage.
Life, education, and career[edit]
Ash Pachauri was born to Dr. Rajendra Kumar Pachauri, the Nobel Peace Laureate and Former Chairman of the IPCC, and Dr. Saroj Pachauri, MD, DPH, PhD, a renowned public health expert, epidemiologist, and preventive healthcare specialist.[1][2] In 2000, Pachauri graduated from Bond University with both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in International Management, achieving the distinction of being listed on the Vice Chancellor’s and Dean’s List of Excellence.[3]
In 2005, he earned his PhD in Behavioral Science, Management, and Technology from the Nottingham University Business School and Yale School of Management, with the program fully funded through the exclusive Overseas Research Scholarship by the Secretary of State for Education and Science, United Kingdom, for this program.
Ash Pachauri pursued further professional development through various training programs, such as Health Education: Part I and Part II, fully-funded by San Francisco State University in 2004, as well as Strategic Leadership by Johns Hopkins University – CCP in 2014, and COVID-19 and Public Health Management by Berkeley in 2020.
He worked with McKinsey & Company between 1999 and 2000 before pursuing a career in the social development area. He served as a Curriculum Developer Consultant at LLEGO’ from 2002 to 2004, followed by a role as a Program Associate Consultant at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) from 2005 to 2006.
Between 2005 and 2007, he took on the role of Program Manager for the Program for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH). From 2006 to 2007, he was a Policy Research Consultant at the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), South Asia Regional Office (SARO). In the years 2007 to 2009, he served as Manager via a consultant satellite office arrangement for the Avahan Program by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Moving forward, from 2011 to 2016, he held the position of Country Representative at Social Impact (SI), US-based organization. In the same period, from 2012 to 2016, he also fulfilled responsibilities related to Communications and Knowledge Management for the Ananya Program by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Pachauri has been engaged with the use of information technology for development. As a master trainer in behavior change communications and strategic leadership, he has led over 20,000 workshops, events, and activities globally to promote global health and climate action among the youth.
Widely published and awarded, he pursues interests in research and teaching through ongoing collaboration with universities and a large range of institutions. He has contributed to 6 books and authored over 35 conference papers and publications. Pachauri has been recognized by the United Nations for his dedication and leadership in their flagship publication “Portraits of Commitment”. In 2021, he was awarded the GlobalMindED Inclusive Leadership Award for action in the field of Energy and Sustainability. He is also an Associate Fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science and serves on the Boards and Advisory groups of several organizations worldwide, including the Climate Change Coalition in Finland and the Global Union of Scientists for Peace (GUSP).

Center for Human Progress: Pachauri founded the Center for Human Progress in 2010. He leads youth- and community-initiatives for behavior change, health education, policy and advocacy promoting public health, human rights, and the sustainable development goals through support for education, knowledge sharing, training and capacity building. Pachauri has also contributed to several initiatives in the field of HIV prevention, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and sustainability.[4]
The POP (Protect Our Planet) Movement: In 2016, Pachauri, in collaboration with his father, the late Dr. Rajendra Kumar Pachauri, established The POP Movement. This organization is dedicated to engaging and empowering youth on a global scale, aiming to equip them with knowledge and inspire them to drive positive change within their schools, homes, and communities. The primary focus of The POP Movement is to foster climate action and sustainable development among the younger generation.[5]
World Sustainable Development Forum: Ash Pachauri serves as the Member of the Board and Treasurer & Secretary of World Sustainable Development Forum, a one-of-a-kind global platform envisioned by his father, Rajendra Pachauri.[6]
