Ashkan Shabani is an Iranian-born Journalist, photographer, visual storyteller and video journalist based in Germany. His documentary work addresses LGBTQ+ experiences, exile, migration and human rights issues across Iran, Turkey and Europe.[1][2]
Career
Shabani has contributed to news, photo projects, and festivals internationally.[3] His photography has appeared in international outlets including Time, The Atlantic, Die Zeit, Financial Times, The Telegraph, Liberal Magazin, Mannschaft, and others.[4][5][6][7][8][9][10]
Notable projects
- Queer, Life, Freedom — a long-term multimedia project exploring queer identity, exile and survival across Iran, Turkey and Germany; exhibited at Kunstraum Leuphana and Kampnagel.[11][12]
- The Quiet Rise — a photographic essay documenting the resurgence of far-right movements in Germany.[13]
