Ashley Purdy is an American musician. He was the bassist and background vocalist for the American rock band Black Veil Brides. In December 2019, he launched a solo project under his own name.
Early life and education
Purdy was raised by his grandparents.[1] He was also raised in Berger, Missouri [2] He moved to California when he was 18. [3]
He received a BFA in Communication Design with an emphasis on Marketing and Advertising from Otis College of Art and Design.[4]
Music Career
Early Career
Before making it big, he was in multiple bands, Orgasm, Stolen Hearts, and Children of the Beast, a Mötley Crüe tribute band. [3]
Black Veil Brides
Ashley joined the band following meeting with lead singer, Andy Biersack after connecting through a craigslist post. He originally intended to try to steal band members for his own group, but was impressed with where things were heading and decided to join the band himself.[3]
In September 2009 Black Veil Brides signed with the independent label StandBy Records.[5] The writing process for a tour and a record began immediately. In 2009 they released their first music video for "Knives and Pens", which to date has garnered over 200 million views. The band embarked on their first US tour, titled "On Leather Wings". Their debut album, We Stitch These Wounds, was released July 20, 2010 and sold over 13,000 copies in its first week, ranking at No. 36 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and No. 1 on the Billboard Independent chart.[6] The band's second studio album, Set the World on Fire, was released on June 14, 2011 through Lava Music/Universal Republic Records.[7] The band's third album, Wretched and Divine: The Story of the Wild Ones, was released on January 8, 2013.[8] Their fourth self-titled album was released on October 27, 2014. Their fifth album Vale was released January 12, 2018.
On November 15, 2019, it was announced on Twitter that he had officially left the band.[9][10]
Solo Project
Following leaving Black Veil Brides, Purdy started teasing new music on his various social media accounts. On Friday, December 13th, 2019 he released the first single, Nowhere.[11]
Fashion Career
March 30th, 2013, he launched his own fashion line, Ashley Purdy Fashion Inc.[1] He does all of the designing, silk screening, sewing, studding, distressing, and customization himself by hand.[4]
Influences
Purdy has named KISS, Mötley Crüe, Alice Cooper and other glam metal artists as big musical and theatrical influences.[12] He has also named Lady Gaga, David Bowie, KISS, Prince, Madonna, and "anyone eccentric with flare" as fashion influences. [4]
