Asian Marine Services Public Company Limited (ASIMAR) is a Thai company specializing in ship repair and shipbuilding services. The company is listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) and operates two major shipyards in Thailand. Its primary shipyard is strategically located on the Chao Phraya River in Samut Prakan Province, providing access to the Gulf of Thailand.[1]

History

The company was established on May 13, 1981, initially operating as a marine survey and consultancy firm. Recognizing a growing demand for high-standard ship repair services, ASIMAR transitioned its business and acquired its first floating dock, "Asimar 1," from Japan in 1987. The company expanded its capacity further by acquiring a second, larger floating dock, "Asimar 2," from Germany in 1995.[2]

ASIMAR became a public company limited and was listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand in August 1994. In 2016, the company opened a second shipyard in Surat Thani Province to better serve clients operating in the southern regions of Thailand.[3]

Operations and Services

ASIMAR's business is structured around three main service areas:

Ship Repair

Ship repair is the company’s core business. Its facilities handle a wide range of repair, conversion, and maintenance projects, including:

  • Hull and structure steel work
  • Blasting and coating for hulls and tanks
  • Machinery overhauls for engines, propellers, and rudders
  • Electrical and piping system repairs

Shipbuilding

ASIMAR has constructed a variety of vessels for both commercial and government clients. Its shipbuilding portfolio includes:

  • Harbor tugboats
  • Diving support vessels (DSV)
  • Fast patrol boats
  • High-speed passenger catamarans
  • Tankers and barges
  • A 442 TEU cargo ship, which was the largest of its kind built in Thailand at the time of its launch.[4]

Engineering and Fabrication

The company utilizes its shipyard facilities and engineering expertise to undertake large-scale steel fabrication projects for both the maritime and onshore industrial sectors.

Facilities

ASIMAR operates two shipyards:

  • Samut Prakan Shipyard: The main facility located on the Chao Phraya River. It is equipped with two floating docks with lifting capacities of 3,800 tons and 6,500 tons, respectively.
  • Surat Thani Shipyard: A smaller facility established to provide repair services and support for vessels in Southern Thailand.
