Asian Venezuleans
Asian Venezuelans are Venezuelans of Asian descent. The largest immigrant group from Asia to Venezuela are the Chinese, drawn by the popularity of Cantonese cuisine, with an estimated population of 450,000 people of Chinese origin. Other groups, including Japanese, Indians, Koreans, and Turks, form a minority of the country's population. The first wave of Chinese emigrants began in 1847, followed by later waves in the 1940s, 1950s, and 1970s, spurred by the oil boom. Another wave of Asians, the Japanese, arrived in 1931, while other groups arrived in smaller numbers, measured in hundreds or thousands.
