Asif Naimur Rashid
Dr. Asif Naimur Rashid is currently serving as the Chief Business Officer (CBO) of Grameenphone(2022-present)- a Telenor subsidiary and the largest Mobile Operator in Bangladesh with more than 80 million customers. He has been working in the ICT & Telecom industry for more than two decades, successfully leading key business & digital transformation programs. Aside Grameenphone, he has worked as the CIO for Robi Axiata(2007-2022), Founding Managing Director for Red.Digital(2021-2022) and in key roles in Telenor Myanmar, Telenor HQ, Telenor India, Siemens and Mentors’ Technologies- home and abroad. He specializes in running large, complex, cross-border telecom projects involving OCS/ CBS, CRM, Cloud Transformation, IT Architecture & Business Process Transformation, Sales & Distribution and Digital Applications.
Dr. Asif has a bachelor’s degree with honors in Applied Physics & Electronics, a Master’s degree in Telecommunication Engineering, an MBA in Executive Management, and a Doctoral degree in Artificial Intelligence with summa cum laude. He regularly speaks at national and international technology events on Cloud, IoT & 5G adoption for emerging countries, applied AI & API marketplaces for telecom, and 4IR potentials.
In his personal life, Dr. Asif, an avid traveler, is married and blessed with three children.
Early Years
Asif Naimur Rashid was born in Khulna,Bangladesh.He passed his Secondary School Certificate from Mirzapur Cadet College, Bangladesh. Dr. Asif has graduated from University of Dhaka, with Honors' in Applied Physics & Electronics (2001). He completed his Masters of Engineering Studies from UTS, Sydney with major in Telecommunications Engineering (2004) and MBA in Executive Management from Royal Roads University, BC, Canada (2008). He pursued his Doctoral degree from California Southern University, USA in the field of Artificial Intelligence and earned Summa Cum Laude (2019).
Dr. Asif has also pursued advanced knowledge on digital technologies from MIT Sloan School of Management, INSEAD Business School, Harvard Business School Executive Education, and National University of Singapore, which he attained successfully.
Career
Dr. Asif, a seasoned CXO and an Ex-board member is widely respected among his peers and in the Business and ICT industry for his remarkable contribution in the field of digital technology and AI-led innovations. His achievement as Summa Cum Laude in his Doctorate Degree from California Southern University, USA in the field of Artificial Intelligence stamps his in-depth knowledge on AI-ML.
Dr. Asif is currently leading the Business Division of Grameenphone to expand Enterprise footprint in the market combining mobility and ICT-based B2B solutions. His current annual revenue portfolio is about 10 Bn BDT with a Year-On-Year growth in the range of double-digit. He is a member of the Management Team and Telenor Talent pool, contributing to company’s overall business growth ambitions. Dr. Asif is directly responsible for the Company’s 100% B2B and Infrastructure Sharing sales revenue through eight departments, where the HoDs report directly to him. He is also responsible for upskilling the B2B workforce with the knowledge of Revenue Mgt systems (IoT, ICT Sales & Distribution, Digital Apps, Marketplace platforms, Cloud native ecosystem and API monetization). He has a close association with the startup ecosystem of Bangladesh, owning and promoting the r-Venture portfolio with investment in 7 startups during the period of 2019-21 as the then founding Managing Director of Red.Digital Limited.
Under business diversification strategy, Dr. Asif is driving the entire IoT portfolio of Grameenphone for both B2B and B2C channels with a strong focus on Enterprise markets. In addition, he is the sponsor and owner of the new revenue stream from the B2B Marketplace solutions of Grameenphone. His active involvement spans towards innovative solutions partnership with several Govt bodies using Nb-IoT technology and Cloud ML. He is a regular speaker in both domestic and international events where he talks mostly on the 4IR evolution, IoT, Cloud Transformation, 5G and other disruptive digital technologies and their impact in human lives moving forward. He has worked in Australia, Asia and Europe in different Telecoms and ICT industry leading companies.
A firm believer of diversity, inclusion and sustainability, Dr. Asif has ensured above 80% of the new recruitments in Business Division Sales core functions are females and involved 100% of the extended management members of his division into strategic business decision process in 2023. He has delivered the Keynote on Grameenphone’s strategy on Sustainability and Utilization of Green Technologies at this year’s Regional Climate Summit. He acts as independent academic advisor for the North South University and a regular panelist/ guest speaker for renowned local academic bodies like the Green University, Ahsanullah University of Science & Technologies among others.
Current Projects
Dr Asif has very recently launched Grameenphone's IoT-based sub brand alo in December 2023 with both B2B and B2C IoT product and solution portfolio. He has also launched the first platform agnostic App marketplace, AppCity in Bangladesh in the month of January 2024. He has also set up the first official R&D lab in Grameenphone called BlueLab and is currently working to drive Grameenphone's initiatives in the field of Artificial Intelligence.
Recognition
Dr Asif was among the early Oracle certified professionals in Bangladesh, earning his OCP's in 1999. During his tenure as the CIO of Robi Axiata , he won 'The Best IT' award in the entire Axiata group of operations in Asia more than once. In 2021, he has been awarded as the winner of APAC Top 7 Technology Leaders by the APAC-based media company W.Media for his outstanding contribution in setting up Modular Data Centers in the region. During his days working in the Axiata, he has received the most prestigious Group President & CEO's award on multiple occasions. In 2023 , Dr Asif has been awarded 'The CBO of the Year' C-Suite award by Bangladesh Brand Forum.
