Asif Tariq is a Kashmiri language poet and short-story writer from Ganderbal, Kashmir.[1][2][3]
Life
Asif Tariq was born on July 7, 2000 in Ganderbal. He wrote some literary work and then visited Zareef Ahmad Zareef. The latter was charmed by the young poet’s work and offered to be his mentor.[3][2]
Asif has done his schooling from Oxford Public School Ganderbal. He hails from central Kashmir's Ganderbal district. He is currently pursuing his honours’ degree in Kashmiri literature from Amar Singh College Srinagar, and came across Kashmiri poetry at an early age. During his first year in Amar Singh College, his works (poems and short stories) got published in the college magazine. He is well-versed in Kashmiri Sufi literature, having read the works of prominent Sufi poets such as Nund Rishi, Shamas Faqir, Mahmud Gami, Lal Ded and Mahjoor.[3]
Asif is currently working with Sangarmal Newspaper (the sole Kashmiri newspaper of Kashmir). The primary themes of his poetry are mysticism, social issues and conflict. Along with poetry, Asif has written many short stories that have been published on various platforms. In 2020, he became editor for Kashmiri literature at The Kashmir Tales.[3][2]
