Early Life and Education
Asot Michael was born on December 21, 1969, in Guadeloupe, French West Indies into a politically active family. His namesake grandfather passed away the day after his beloved Radcliffe Street property was burnt down by anti-government entities. Michael’s father, Patrick, was renowned within the local community as an early supporter of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party during the 1970s. The Michael family holds a renowned reputation for their multi-generational commitment to the social and economic development of Antigua and Barbuda.
Young Asot Michael excelled within his education and earned his BS in Business Administration from Barry University. Then, Michael earned an MBA from the prestigious University of Miami’s Graduate School of Business. Post-matriculation, Michael read law at the University College of London, prior to returning to Antigua to pursue his ever-growing interest in local politics, commerce, and civil service.
Asot Michael entered the realm of Antigua and Barbuda’s politics via an inaugural appointment as a Special Administrative Assistant from 1995 to 1997. In this position, Michael served under the Honorable Lester Bryant Bird, the Prime Minister at the time. This initial position grew to Chief of Staff in the Office of the Prime Minister, where Michael served between 1997 and 2000.
From 1999 to 2003, Michael became the Senator and Leader of Government Business in the Upper House of the Parliament of Antigua and Barbuda. Simultaneously, Michael also served as the Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister. From 1999 to 2001, Michael was responsible for Public Works, Communications, Insurance, Energy and the St. John’s Development Corporation. Following this assignment, Michael took on the role of Minister of Public Works, Communications, Insurance and St. John’s Development between 2001 and 2003.
Faring exceptionally well in his first participatory elections in March 2004, Michael was elected as the ALP Representative for the St. Peter’s Constituency. With an unwavering commitment to the betterment of the lives of his constituents, Michael was re-elected to his post in 2009, 2014, and 2018. In 2014, when the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party formed the government, Michael was appointed to the Cabinet of Ministers. The same year, he was appointed as the Minister of Tourism, Economic Development, Investment and Energy. In 2018, Michael pivoted to an elected role as the Minister of Investment and Trade.

A proponent of various public infrastructure projects, Michael positioned himself as a leader in the evolution of the twin island’s wealth generation. For many generations, Michael’s family has been a cornerstone in the small business realm in Antigua and Barbuda. His family has been avidly involved in business ventures, commerce, and local legislation created to support the growing local economy. Tourism and small business ventures account for a large portion of the country’s GDP. Michael’s intimate knowledge of this realm renders him as an effective advocate for other small business owners. Thus, Michael continues to focus his efforts in the realm of economic and business growth, safety and security, public infrastructure, and social justice.
In addition to his political appointments, Asot Michael is involved in various entrepreneurial ventures. Asot Michael is the Co-Founder and CEO of Asot’s Arcade in the tourist-heavy town of St. John’s. Michael is also the President and CEO of the Caribbean Energy Engineering Company, and the President and CEO of Sarkis Management Company Ltd., a premier real estate development, hotel and tourism development company in Antigua and Barbuda. Through these engagements, he remains committed to the future of the country, and his neighbours.
