Asset Partnership Model
Definition[edit]
Grouping and managing related projects in a coordinated manner to create efficiencies for project teams that translate to value for clients. Projects are managed with a single operational point of contact (portfolio manager) to support high levels of functional integration, management of inter dependencies between projects, resourcing, and change and technically led by a core team of scientists.
Background[edit]
The asset partnership model (APM) was developed to reduce repetitive activities seen when a set of projects that could be completed with one vendor are completed across multiple vendors (e.g. request for proposals, contracting, invoice and budget management, meeting time, communication on strategy or asset, timeline coordination, orientation to client processes and preferences).
Goals[edit]
Coordination across multiple stakeholders by the portfolio manager is used to understand business objectives and measures of success, and assist teams in meeting those objectives on-time, on-budget, and within a defined scope. Help eliminating or minimizing pain points by identifying overarching challenges proactively, working with internal and external team members to find viable solutions, streamline communications, and create efficiencies, potentially resulting in cost savings and/or greater client satisfaction.
Primary Operational Point of Contact
- Time savings for communication and coordination
- Flexible budget management
- Understands project interdependencies
Integrated Project Teams
- Consolidated, core project team
- Consistent interpretation of asset
- Cross-project coordination and communication
- Reduced meetings
Cross-Project Efficiencies
- Coordination time led by portfolio manager, reducing technical staff time burden for operational work
- Higher quality, more consistent work product
- Project customization to support integration and needs of entire portfolio of work to support the asset
