The Assistant to the President for Economic Policy and Director of the National Economic Council (NEC Director), commonly referred to as the Chief Economic Advisor to the President, is a senior aide in the Executive Office of the President, based at the West Wing of the White House.[1]

Background[edit]

The NEC Director serves as the principal advisor to the President of the United States on all economic issues.

The NEC Director participates in meetings of the National Economic Council (United States) (NEC) and usually chairs meetings of the Principals Committee of the NEC with the Secretary of the Treasury and Secretary of State (those meetings not attended by the president). The NEC Director also sits on the National Security Council (NSC).
