The Association for Writing Across the Curriculum (AWAC) is a non-profit, non-partisan professional organization established in 2018.[1] The association supports students and teachers across academic disciplines in leveraging writing as a teaching and learning tool in all subjects.[2] AWAC supports continued investigation and research that promotes the understanding of the value of writing as a means of learning and communicating across all disciplines, professions, communities, and academic levels.[3] The organization also promotes the local and global visibility and impact of Writing across the curriculum (WAC).[3]
Goals of the Organization
AWAC advances Writing Across the Curriculum through collaboration, scholarship, mentorship, advocacy, and public engagement. Its goals center on strengthening writing instruction across disciplines and institutions.
AWAC works in affiliation with other major writing-focused organizations worldwide to support shared research agendas, cross-institutional initiatives, and coordinated professional development in writing pedagogy. Affiliated organizations include the WAC Clearinghouse, the Latin American Association of Writing Studies in Higher Education and Professional Contexts (ALES), the European Association for the Teaching of Academic Writing (EATAW), and the Middle East-North Africa Writing Centers Alliance (MENAWCA).[4]
Promoting scholarly work
AWAC advances WAC scholarship by supporting diverse publication venues, open-access databases, and scholarly journals.[5][6] It sponsors scholarly exchange through the International Writing Across the Curriculum Conference (IWAC) and hosts webinars and virtual events that highlight emerging research in writing instruction and inclusive pedagogy.[7][8]
Projects and research on WAC issues

Officers and Governance
AWAC is governed by an Executive Board composed of three chair positions: Incoming Chair, Chair, and Past Chair. The board also includes a secretary, a treasurer, standing committee chairs, and two members-at-large.[19] Board members must be AWAC members in good standing, and officers and committee chairs are elected by the general membership. The chair positions rotate through staggered one-year terms, while the secretary and treasurer serve three-year terms.
