The Assyrian Studies Association (ASA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving Assyrian culture and heritage through supporting research, scholarly publications, and collaborative projects[1]. Founded in 2019, ASA's goal is to facilitate contact and exchange of information between scholars, academic organizations, and communities across various disciplines. ASA's mission is to advance studies on the Assyrian people and their culture on an academic level. The organization's Preserving Assyria program encompasses four initiatives - Heritage Archive, Oral History, Giving Back, and Educational - that are all dedicated to the mission and protecting the Assyrian identity. ASA's Giving Back Initiative is well-known for providing grants to scholars, graduate students, and professors interested in conducting original research about the Assyrian culture and/or heritage from various academic fields.
History[edit]
ASA was founded by both Dr. Sargon Donabed, professor at Roger Williams University and an expert on the perennial history of Assyrian Mesopotamian culture[2] and Dr. Helen Malko, Associate Director at The American Center of Research who's research focuses on archaeology and cultural heritage of the Middle East, cultural representation in museums, and ideas of historical consciousness[3]. Executive Director of ASA, Alexandra Lazar is a Ph.D student at the University of California, Davis.
