Astaria is a MUD (text-based online role-playing game) that has been in operation since 1992. It has a loyal following and is undergoing a period of reinvention after moving to be hosted on a public cloud (Microsoft) out of Seattle.

Astaria is a text-based MUD[1], with a player-guild level system, 9 guilds, and 15 races, as well as clans and player-owned estates.

Setting

Astaria is set in a world beset by Chaos, where only the Harmonic holds the realm together. There are three continents, (at least) five cities, and an ever-expanding world to explore.

Business model

Since 1992, Astaria has been, and always will be, Free to Play. Donations are accepted but restricted to cosmetic changes.

Technical infrastructure

Astaria is written in LPC, running on the MUM driver with a highly customized mudlib based on TMI-2.
