Astolfo (Japanese: アストルフォ, Hepburn: Asutorufo), is a fictional character from the Japanese 2012 light novel series Fate/Apocrypha by Type-Moon. Astolfo is a heroic warrior who is summoned by Celenike Icecolle Yggdmillennia to participate in a war between masters and servants who are fighting to accomplish their dreams using the mythical Holy Grail, and later forming a new contract with Sieg, the main protagonist.

In his previous life Astolfo was Astolfo one of the twelve Paladins of Charlemagne. He is optimistic and cheerful and lacking in common sense, as was the case in the legend too[3]

Astolfo, while genetically and biologically male, likes to cross-dress, and has been described as androgynous.[4] They are willing to allow other characters to believe them to be either gender without objection, and has had relationships with women in the past, while also harbouring romantic feelings towards the series' male protagonist, Sieg, shown in the episode "Knight of Rebellion".

His popularity as a character in the Fate media franchise was deemed to surpass the popularity of the original in modern times.[5] This phenomenon was also observed for other characters in the Fate franchise in a study,[5] which led the authors to name it the "Astolfo Effect".[5] Astolfo is subject to numerous memes including one of a haunted astolfo plushie[6]

In 2018 a new version of Fate/Apocrypha anime was released with bonus astolfo content[7].

Astolfo is a popular character to cosplay with Sneaky cosplaying as him[8], and a prominent 2021 meme of a cosplayer holding a Monster Energy can and comparing it with their penis[9][10]

Astolfo is a central character in Fate Grand Order, in December 2021 Astolfo had a new Saber form introduced in it[11][12].

In late 2021 a hand sanitizer dispenser for safety in the covid pandemic was designed to resemble Astolfo ejaculating the hand sanitizer[13].
