Astor Investment Management, LLC is an American global asset management firm headquartered in Chicago.[1] Founded in 1994 as Astor Financial LLC, Astor Investment Management, LLC was a SEC registered investment advisor firm by 2001. As of September 2019, the firm has $2.5 billion in assets under management.[2]
History
Astor Investment Management was initially started as Astor Financial LLC in 1994 by Rob Stein.[2] It was the parent company to Astor Asset Management LLC, the predecessor to Astor Investment Management, LLC, a SEC registered investment advisor firm launched in 2001 by Stein. In late 2010, the firm was purchased by Knight Capital Group (KCG:NYSE)[3] though the asset manager was taken back private by Stein upon the re-capitalization of Knight in 2013.
In November 2017, Astor partnered with JMP Group with a minority investment in the firm from JMP's asset management subsidiary, Harvest Capital Strategies LLC.[4]
Operations
Astor invests in assets across the United States and employs approximately 32 employees. The firm offers mutual funds, unified managed accounts (UMA) and separately managed accounts (SMA). Their ETF portfolio construction and macroeconomic model analyzes economic data to regulate the current phase of the business cycle.[5][6] Astor's Dynamic Allocation strategy was launched in 2001,[7] along with its Sector Allocation strategy. The firm's tactical income focused strategy, Active Income, was launched in 2011. The firm's Macro Alternative strategy was launched in 2016.
