Atala school
Atala school (Finnish: Atalan koulu) is a primary school located in Atala, Northeast Tampere, Finland, at the address Pulkkakatu 3.[1] Education is provided for grades 1–6 as well as pre-school education (the so-called eskari).[2] The school belongs to the Takahuhti school path, i.e. the students who are transferred to the 7th grade will generally continue to study at the Takahuhti school instead.[3]
The school building was originally completed in 1985 and was extended once in the 1990s.[4] There was also the Atala Healthcare Center, which was connected to the building, but its functions were transferred to the Linnainmaa Welfare Center in 2017.[5] The school yard is large and vegetated.[6] It is informally divided into the upper and lower-yards; due to the significant difference in the height of the two halves.[7] In July 2019, a climbing frame, which had been in the school yard for over 10 years, was burned to an unusable state in an act of vandalism.[8][9]
The principal of the school is Nina Kaarlenkaski, and the deputy principal is Teppo Mattila.[10] Mattila was awarded the city of Tampere's Adult of the Year award in 2019, due to significant work done for children and the youth.[11][12] The school also has an official Instagram account set up in October 2019.[13] As of 2022, the school has more than 350 students and about 100 staff members.[14]
