The Ateneo Reserve Officers' Training Corps (Ateneo ROTC) is a Reserve Officers' Training Corps unit and a component of the Philippines' National Service Training Program (NSTP) in the Ateneo de Manila University. The NSTP is a program for university students, geared towards civic education and national service; the ROTC program focuses on military education and training for future military reservists.

Overview[edit]

The 131st Department of Air Science and Tactics fulfills the ROTC component of the NSTP program in the Ateneo de Manila University, training second-year students (both male and female) for two semesters (Air Science 1 and Air Science 2). In keeping with revisions made by the government in 2001, ROTC is a voluntary program and serves as an alternative to the Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS); ADMU does not currently offer Literacy Training Service (LTS), the third component of NSTP [1]. Cadets enlisted in ROTC may opt for advanced training and join a "Special Flight", which consist of the Air Police, Armorer, Field Medic, and Honor Guard programs. These provide specialized training and entail additional training time; upon completion, Special Flight cadets earn the rank of Cadet Sergeant (C/Sgt). Additionally, cadets may join the Cadet Officer Candidate Course (COCC), for training towards becoming a Cadet Officer; successful completion results in recognition as a Cadet Second Lieutenant (C/2LT). Both the Special Flight and COCC programs run through a semester, concurrent with regular university classes. Cadet Officers serve until their graduation from university, whereupon they achieve the rank of Sergeant in the Reserves.

The rank structure is as follows:

Cadet Officers

Cadet Colonel (C/COL), Cadet Lieutenant Colonel (C/LTC), Cadet Major (C/MAJ), Cadet Captain (C/CPT), Cadet First Lieutenant (C/1LT), Cadet Second Lieutenant (C/2LT)

Non-Commissioned Cadet Officers (NCCO)

Cadet Master Sergeant (C/Msgt), Cadet Technical Sergeant (C/Tsg), Cadet Staff Sergeant (C/SSgt), Cadet Sergeant (C/Sgt)

Regular Cadets

Cadet Airman First Class (C/A1C), Cadet Airman Second Class (C/A2C), Cadet Airman (C/AM), Cadet (C/)

The rank of Cadet Colonel is reserved for the Corps Commander, the 1st Class Cadet Officer designated to serve as leader of the Ateneo Corps of Cadet Officers.
