An athletic trainer is a qualified and certified trainer (with a bachelor's or master's degree) whose main area of practice is sports. Athletic trainers are highly trained in helping prevent injuries, assessing athletes, managing, and treating athletic injuries. Athletic trainers collaborate with doctors, coaches, and even families when it comes to assessing and treating an athletes injury.

To become an athletic trainer one must have obtained at least a bachelors degree in athletic training, exercise science, kinesiology, etc.. The National Athletic Training Association reported that 70% of all athletic trainers had their masters degree, so getting one is reccomended. After obtaining a degree, one must graduate from a Commission on Accredidation of Athletic Trainer Education (CAATE) and become certified.
