Attabotics (stylized as ATTAbotics) is a Calgary-based robotics company which specializes in inventory management systems. Attabotics was named one of CNBC's 100 most promising startups in 2019[2] and Fast Company's 31st most innovative company in 2020.[3]
Attabotics designs and produces a robotic inventory storage and retrieval system.[4] The Attabotics system uses three dimensions of travel which greatly reduces warehouse footprint and workforce needed compared to a conventional fulfillment centre,[5] and uses modular cubic totes allowing the system to be easily scaled up or down.[6] Nordstrom's fulfillment centre in Newark, California, which uses Attabotics and Tompkins Robotics systems, required 10% of the floorspace of a traditional fulfillment centre.[7]
Attabotics had a total of $32.7 million in funding by 2019; investors included Coatue Management, Comcast Ventures, Honeywell Ventures, Forerunner Ventures, and Werklund Growth Fund LP.[1] Attabotics has also received government investment, including C$3.3 million in clean energy investment from Sustainable Development Technology Canada[8] and C$4.5 million from the City of Calgary.[9]
In 2019, Attabotics announced a new headquarters building in Northeast Calgary.[4] The design, by Calgary-based Modern Office of Design + Architecture, won multiple architectural awards in 2019 and is expected to be complete in 2022.[10][11] It is designed like a wedge to conform with nearby Calgary Airport height restrictions.[12]
