Atticus (or @AtticusPoetry) is an anonymous poet, writer, and artist. He is the New York Times Bestselling author of The Dark Between Stars , published in 2018, and the International Bestseller of Love Her Wild, published in 2017. Atticus is known for his short-form style of poetry, aphorisms, epigrams. His writing commonly incorporates themes of love, relationships, adventure, and female empowerment. In addition to his books of poetry, Atticus shares poems with his followers on Instagram, Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest and Twitter.

Personal Life

Atticus was born in the Pacific North West, and now resides in New York. He credits his mother with introducing him to poetry at a young age, however, didn't begin writing until he was older.. He began posting his poetry online in 2013.

Atticus has stated that growing up he and his family would travel a lot, and being exposed to different cultures help shape his world view as he became an adult. He loves the ocean, the desert, riding motorcycles, sailing and playing with words. Although he keeps much of his life private, Atticus has revealed in interviews that his favorite book is The Great Gatsby, his favorite drink is whiskey, and his favorite place is a small town in France called Giverny.

Atticus has been open about his struggles with mental health when he was younger and now works closely with the non-profit To Write Love On Her Arms. In 2018, Atticus collaborated with the Vancouver-based jewelry company Pyrrha to make a custom Atticus quote necklace, raising $35,000 for To Write Love On Her Arms in support of mental health services and awareness.

Career

Atticus' first performance took place in 2017 at "The Last Bookstore" bookstore in downtown Los Angeles. He tours extensively throughout North America and Europe.

He chooses to remain anonymous and wears a mask and hood during live readings and book signings.

Atticus' work is often shared and quoted by celebrities including Karlie Kloss, Emma Roberts, and Cody Simpson.

In 2019, Atticus created and launched the red wine brand ‘Lost Poet Wine’ with the American wine distribution company, WINC. In 2019, Lost Poet wine is the highest rated red wine on www.winc.com

Artistry

On Instagram, Atticus shares poetry by posting black and white photos with the poems written on them in various fonts, pictures of pages of his books, and pictures of fans' tattoos.

Influences

Atticus began writing poetry after a conversation with the American actor Michael Madsen: "I found him to be the most profound, interesting gentleman and he told me a lot about his history and his struggles with depression and alcohol and troubles with the family and everything. He had just put out his own poetry book. And I couldn't believe it; here was this American badass, the most manly, whisky-drinking motorcycle-riding guy and he put out this book of poetry and he said that writing and being able to vent truly saved his life and certainly saved his marriage and his family. And I really took that to heart. Later I was in Paris walking the streets and I saw something and I ended up writing in my phone about it. And that's how it started."

He is inspired by his favorite poets: Charles Bukowski, Robert Frost, James George, Emily Dickinson, Sylvia Plath, and Maya Angelou.
