Audoo is a technology company which provides music recognition software to Performance Rights Organisations.[1]
Audoo’s products include a patented hardware device, an audio fingerprinting tool, music databases and metadata. Audoo provides Performance Rights Organisations with information about what music is being broadcast at licensed venues[2].
The company is headquartered in London[3].
History
Audoo was founded by Ryan Edwards in 2018[4]. Edwards – a former member of indie rock band The Lines [5] – started the company to create a solution to the issue of unpaid music royalties after he himself had discovered that he was improperly compensated for a song that he had written [6].
Audoo raised £600,000 in May 2019 as part of a £1.2m funding round backed by Greg Gormley, co-Founder of Bink; Luke Heron, co-Founder of Testcard; Tim Davies, Chief Innovation Officer at Co-op; and Marcus Watson, CEO of Adoreum [7].
Later that year, Nigel Elderton (European President of Peermusic and incumbent Chairman of PRS for Music [8]), Chris Herbert (creator of the Spice Girls [9], 5ive and founder of Scream Films [10]) and Rick Riccobono (former Vice President of CBS Songs and Broadcast Music Inc [11]) joined Audoo as members of its advisory board [12].
Audoo was a member of Abbey Road Studio’s tech incubator Abbey Road Red [13], and has participated in missions led by the Department for International Trade [14]. It is also a member of The Mayor’s International Business Programme [15].
Funding
Audoo raised £150,000 in October 2018 in its initial pre-seed funding round. It raised £1.2 million in May 2019 in a seed round. Audoo supplemented this further, raising an additional £250,000 in a February 2020 equity crowdfunding round.[16]
