Augustus Kyalo Muli is a Kenyan politician, businessman, and political commentator who is the Party Leader of the National Liberal Party (NLP).[1][2][3] He is the National Patron of the Anzauni Ndene Clan[4] and the founder of Global Links Logistics Consultancy in Dubai, UAE.[5] He is active in Ukambani regional politics and national political mobilization ahead of the 2027 Kenyan general election[6][7].[8][9][10][11]
In 2025, he was appointed to lead an East African regional trade initiative and to the Membership and Partnerships Committee of the East African Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (EACCIA).[12][13][14][15] In 2024, he was involved in the IEBC selection panel dispute as the NLP nominee, which resulted in litigation up to the Court of Appeal.[16][17][18][19][20][21]
Early life and education
Muli was born in Kitui County, Kenya.[22] He attended Starehe Boys' Centre for his secondary education.[23][24] He studied at Kenyatta University, Nairobi, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Education (Arts) degree, majoring in Music.[23][24] He also holds a Master of Business Administration.[25][23] He was awarded an honorary doctoral degree from Breakthrough University, USA.[26]
Education, business and philanthropy career
Muli worked in the education sector after graduating from Kenyatta University.[23] He later moved into the private sector, working in finance, logistics, and business strategy.
He is the founder and Managing Director of Global Links Logistics Consultancy, a Dubai, United Arab Emirates based logistics and trade consultancy firm located at Emirates Towers, Sheikh Zayed Road.[5] Through Global Links, Muli established business interests between Kenya and the UAE, focusing on import-export and investment linkages.[24]
In February 2025, Muli was appointed to spearhead an East Africa trade drive under the East African Community framework, focused on enhancing regional trade flows and positioning East Africa as a competitive investment destination.[12][13] In September 2025, the East African Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (EACCIA) appointed him to lead its Membership and Partnerships Committee.[14] Streamline Feed reported that Muli was tasked with “spearheading EACCIA trade and partnerships” to deepen private-sector integration across the EAC bloc and attract foreign direct investment.[15] allAfrica reported in January 2026 that Muli was leveraging the trade role to push for "industrial hubs in Ukambani" and deeper integration of Kenya’s counties into EAC commerce.[13]
He is the founder of the Kyalo Kya Maendeleo Foundation, which has implemented education bursaries, water projects, and youth empowerment programs in Kitui.[27][28][25]
Political career
National Liberal Party
Following a restructuring of the National Liberal Party's National Executive Committee, Muli assumed the party's leadership, a position later reflected in the Kenya Gazette.[29] Under his leadership, the party has held town hall meetings across the Ukambani region as part of its political outreach. KBC has reported that his strategy focuses on consolidating political support in Ukambani ahead of the 2027 Kenyan general election[30][31].[32][33]
Anzauni Cultural Leadership
In February 2024, Muli was installed as National Patron of the Anzauni Ndene Clan by the Akamba Clan Governing Council of Elders[34].[35][4] The Anzauni are one of the 22 Akamba clans with an estimated population of over 400,000 people spread across Kitui, Machakos and Makueni counties.[28] In July 2026, the Council of Anzauni Elders endorsed Muli to be installed as the First Chief of the Anzauni Cultural Chiefdom during a planned community unity rally at Kitui Stadium.[28]
Political positions and activities
Muli has presented the National Liberal Party (NLP) as an alternative to established political parties in the Ukambani region[36][37], arguing that the region has experienced prolonged political and economic neglect. In interviews[38], he has criticized the dominance of traditional political leadership in the region and advocated for new leadership ahead of the 2027 Kenyan general election.[39]
Political commentators and media outlets have discussed Muli's efforts to expand the NLP's influence in Ukambani and beyond, with some describing his emergence as a challenge to the region's established political order[40][41]. Muli has also promoted policies centered on economic empowerment, devolution, regional trade, and equitable resource allocation, encapsulated in his slogan "trade, not tribe."[42]
In July 2024, Muli met with members of the Agikuyu Council of Elders[43], who publicly expressed support for his efforts to build a broader national political movement. Media coverage described the meeting as part of the NLP's attempt to expand its support outside the Ukambani region.[44][45]
IEBC Selection Panel Dispute
In 2024, Muli challenged the nomination process for the minority coalition representative on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Selection Panel before the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal[46]. The dispute delayed the appointment of the selection panel and was widely reported by Kenyan media. The ensuing litigation culminated in a High Court judgment that set aside the PPDT decision and directed that a fresh nomination process be conducted in accordance with the law.[47]

As of early 2025, Muli was considering a parliamentary bid for Kitui Central in the 2027 election[48]. Residents cited his national profile and grassroots work as reasons for supporting a potential candidacy. [49]

Muli is frequently quoted in Kenyan media on politics, trade, and devolution.[3] His Muck Rack journalist profile lists articles featuring his commentary in outlets including KBC, The Standard, Tuko, and Capital FM.[3] He has appeared on Citizen TV to discuss Ukambani politics and the Wiper party,[50] on Citizen TV regarding the IEBC selection panel dispute,[17] and on Citizen TV covering the IEBC battle at the Court of Appeal.[20] He has also appeared on Sauti TV where he addressed NLP’s national strategy and Ukambani voter realignment,[51] and in a YouTube interview detailing his economic policy positions.[52]
