Auseklis (The Morning Star) is a newspaper published published in the United States and Latvia. Founded in 1898 and edited in Boston, it was the first Marxist periodical published in the Latvian language.[1]

Davis Bundza was a progressive who started Auseklis (the Morning Star) in 1898, the first Marxist periodical published in the Latvian language.[1] Bundza had formed the Union of Latvian Social Democrats in Boston, who officially produced the Morning Star.[2]
The periodical was printed in Cleveland but edited in Boston, and also circulated to readers in Latvia. The publication at "times traded vitriolic attacks" with the Latvian publication Amerikas Vestinesis, a "pattern that would repeat with later Latvian immigrant publications."[1]
