Austin Madaisky (born January 30, 1992) is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman. He is currently playing with the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League (AHL). Madaisky was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 5th round (124th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
Junior career[edit]
Madaisky played four seasons of major junior hockey in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Calgary Hitmen and Kamloops Blazers. During his rookie season he was chosen to compete with the silver medal winning Canada Pacific team at the 2009 World U-17 Hockey Challenge.[1] During the 2009–10 season he was selected to play in the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game.[2] The following season Madaisky skated with Team WHL for play against Team Russia in the 2010 Subway Super Series,[3] before his 2010–11 season ended after he broke a bone in his neck as a result from a hit into the boards by Brandon Manning of the Chilliwack Bruins.[4] Madaisky bounced back for the 2011–12 season, and his outstanding play was recognized when he was named to the 2011–12 WHL (West) Second All-Star Team.[5]
Professional career[edit]
On May 19, 2012, the Columbus Blue Jackets of the NHL signed Madaisky a three-year entry-level contract .[6] He began his professional career in the ECHL when, due to the 2012–13 NHL lockout, he was loaned to the Evansville Icemen;[7] but he in his eighth game with the Icemen he suffered a wrist injury which required surgery forcing him to miss four months of play.[8] He returned to finish the 2012–13 season in the AHL, skating in six games with the Springfield Falcons.
