Austin ‘Tay’ Iornongulwar (born June 9, 1997), professionally known and referred to as TayIwar, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, composer, audio engineer and music producer.[1]

Early Life & Education[edit]

TayIwar was born and raised in Victoria Island, Lagos State, Nigeria where he resided for 12 years before moving to the Nigerian capital Abuja. He has two siblings. His parents enrolled him and his two brothers in a classical music school. His parents’ interest in music and musical preferences such as jazz, blues, soul and reggae greatly influenced Tay in his childhood. His hip hop influence can be further attributed to his brother.[2] When he was 10 he aspired to be in the legal profession by becoming a lawyer, but at the age of 13 due to his use of the guitar, it was obvious his future was music. By the age of 15 he was already scripting songs and mounting his musical dreams with a guitar given to him by his father. During his grade years he was made aware of fruity-loops digital production software by a schoolmate. Fruity-loops software at the time was an innovative tool for developing and producing digital music.  He then spent most of his high school years mastering the art of music production and recording before travelling overseas to study sound engineering. [3]

Career[edit]

TayIwar, began his musical career at the age of 14. In 2013, he co-created Bantu Collective a media company. He released his first album “Passport” in April 2014. The album initially performed poorly due to poor promotion but later on became a sleeper hit consequently making TayIwar a commercial star. He has produced singles for Sute, Boogey, Ozzy B, Davido Onuoha etc. which have gained positive reviews in the music industry.[4]
