Autoflower Cup
The Autoflower Cups are a series of annual plant breeding contests that judge autoflowering cannabis strains bred on the national and international levels.[1][2] The Autoflower World Cup is held in Barcelona, Spain,[1] while the American Autoflower Cup is held in Los Angeles, California.[2]
History[edit]
The Autoflower Cups judge autoflowering cannabis strains, which are cannabis seeds that flower almost immediately after sprouting and can be harvested after around 70 days of life.[3] Prior to the establishment of the Autoflower Cups, there had previously been other cannabis breeding competitions such as the Cannabis Cup and the Emerald Cup.[4]
The first Autoflower World Cup was held in Barcelona, Spain in 2021.[5] At the second Autoflower World Cup in 2022, the Gorilla Punch strain won the first prize, while the Fast Buds autoflower seed bank won the Best Sativa Strain award.[1][3][6] The third Autoflower World Cup took place in March 2023 at the OG Club in Barcelona.[1] The Autoflower World Cup is curated by Arnau Tango.[5]
The first American Autoflower Cup was held in the Green Street building in Downtown Los Angeles in January 2023.[2][3][7] The event was founded by filmmaker and cannabis breeder Jeremy Norrie.[1] It was the first autoflower breeding competition held in California.[8] The competition featured similar categories to the Autoflower World Cup, such as Top Sativa Strain, Top Indica Strain, and Top Autoflower Breeder.[9][10] The winners were the Fast Buds Strawberry Gorilla strain in the sativa category and the Fast Buds Banana Purple Punch strain in the indica category.[2][11] Spain-based Mephisto Genetics also won the Best Breeder award at the event.[2]
