The Autrey/Autry family is a large American-Mexican family and oil dynasty[4] of French origin and can be traced back to French immigrant and planter, Cornelius Autry of North Carolina[5][6].
History[edit]
There are many conflicting stories concerning the exact origin of the Autrey/Autry family. The Mexican branch believes that their forefathers can be traced back to Lafayette's colonial grenadiers who came to assist the colonists during the American Revolutionary War, but the American branch holds the tradition that the patriarch of the Autry/Autrey family is a French immigrant and planter by the name of Cornelius Autry who was born in Autrey-le-Vay in France and subsequently immigrated to Ireland and then onto North Carolina.
