Pat A. Basu (born June 12, 1978) President and Chief Executive Officer of Cancer Treatment Centers of America Global, LLC.... In 2012, Basu co-founded the telehealth company Doctor on Demand, an online platform which allows individuals to schedule virtual appointments with a network of physicians and therapists . In June 2010, Basu served as White House Fellow and Senior Advisor to President Barack Obama overseeing aspects of the federal government’s economic and health agenda .

Early life and education

Basu grew up in Naperville, Illinois . He attended Scott Elementary School, Madison Junior High and Naperville Central High School. He received the Naperville Central Distinguished Alumni Award in 2012.

Basu received his undergraduate education in Mechanical Engineering in 2000 at the University of Illinois which he attended on both a National Merit Scholarship and University Chancellor’s Scholarship. At the University of Illinois, he served on the Homecoming Court, the Student Alumni Ambassadors, and as a member of the Student-Faculty Senate. He received his Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) in 2005 at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He completed his medical training at Stanford University.

Career

Medicine

Basu was in Palo Alto, California from 2005 to 2010 where he served as Chief Resident at Stanford University Medical Center. He was also the Founding Faculty Director of Health Policy and Finance, where he taught Stanford medical and business students. Also, while at Stanford University, he completed the Business School’s Faculty Leadership Program. In 2010, Basu was the recipient of Stanford Medicine’s Specialist Physician of the Year Award. Dr. Basu served as an attending staff physician at vRad .

Dr. Basu has also served as an attending Staff Physician treating veterans at both the Jesse Brown VA Hospital in Chicago, IL and the Palo Alto VA Hospital in Palo Alto, CA.

Business & policy

Presidential administration

In June 2010 he served as a Presidentially appointed White House Fellow and Senior Advisor to President Obama overseeing aspects of the federal government’s economic and health agenda

He served as President, Chief Operating Officer COO and Board Director of Virtual Radiologic (vRad), a merger of the publicly traded firms Nighthawk and Virtual Radiologic from May 2011 to May 2013 .

Dr. Basu co-founded Doctor on Demand, a telemedicine company, which he led from April 2013 to March 2016. From March 2016 through August 2018, he served as a Senior Vice President for UnitedHealth Group. During this time, he served as President of Optum Care.

Dr. Basu served as a Partner at the growth equity firm Chicago Pacific Founders and venture capital firm Pritzker Group Venture Capital from May 2018 to May 2019

Since April 2019, Dr. Basu has been serving as the President, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and as a member of the Board of Directors at Cancer Treatment Centers of America Global, LLC.

As publicly reported as of February 2022, City of Hope acquired Cancer Treatment Centers of America which the organization plans to convert to Not-For-Profit Status.

Memberships

Dr. Basu serves on the Board of Trustees for the Museum of Science and Industry and for the Morton Arboretum. He previously served on the Board of Directors of the University of Illinois and the Stanford University Medical Alumni Association.

Dr. Basu also served as a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the US-Japan Foundation, Atlantik-Brücke US-Germany, the Illinois State Board of Health, the Illinois Institute of Government & Public Affairs, Leadership Greater Chicago, the Economic Club of Chicago and as a Regional Commissioner of the White House Fellows

Advisory roles and consultancy

Dr. Basu has served in both board of directors and board of advisory roles for CareCredit, Specialty Care, Takeda, Walgreens, General Electric, Takeda, McKinsey & Company, and the American Medical Association.
