Ava Bounds (born 10 December 2005) is a British filmmaker, writer and actor from Yorkshire, England. She began her career as a child actor, appearing in the West End production of The Ferryman directed by Sam Mendes. She later moved into filmmaking, directing her first short film, Players, during the COVID-19 pandemic.[1]

Bounds directed the short film Beth (2021), which received the IMDb New Filmmaker Award. She has since directed a number of short films, including Hello Frisco, Dying to Meet You, Anna McGee's Wild Ride, We Are Here, Still, and The Witches of Pool Bottom.[2]

Her films have screened at film festivals, including festivals that qualify for BAFTA and Academy Award consideration.[3]

Early life

Bounds was born in Yorkshire, England, in 2005.[4] She grew up in North Yorkshire and attended Ashville School.[5]

During childhood, Bounds studied music, drama, visual art and dance. She participated in singing competitions and studied piano.[6]

At the age of twelve, Bounds appeared in the West End production of The Ferryman before later developing an interest in filmmaking.[7]

Career

Bounds began making short films as a teenager. Her directorial debut, Players, was produced in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.[8]

Her short film Beth (2021) explored schizophrenia through the story of a patient in a Yorkshire asylum. The film received the IMDb New Filmmaker Award, with Bounds becoming the youngest recipient of the award.[9]

Her later films include Hello Frisco, Dying to Meet You, Anna McGee's Wild Ride, We Are Here, Still, and The Witches of Pool Bottom.

In addition to filmmaking, Bounds has written for theatre. She contributed to the Leeds Playhouse production of Brainstorm.[10]
