Avail is a property management software platform part of the Realtor.com® network. The company was founded in 2012 [1] and acquired by Move, Inc., a subsidiary of News Corp, in 2020.[2] Avail is headquartered in Chicago, IL.

Avail provides cloud-based (SaaS) solutions for landlords and real estate professionals[3] to manage properties.

History[edit]

Avail, originally 'Rentalutions', was founded in 2012 and headquartered in Chicago, IL. The company’s co-founders are Ryan Coon and Laurence Jankelow.[2]

In 2017, the company raised $2 million in funding from investors Cultivation Capital, M25 Group, and Sandalphon Capital. These funds were used to accelerate marketing and advertising efforts, plus automate processes via new features.[4]

Approximately one year later, the company was rebranded from Rentalutions to its current name, Avail, in May 2018.”[5]

In 2019, St. Louis-based venture capital firm, Cultivation Capital, invested an additional $2.5 million in Avail.[6] This round of funding came as a result of the platform’s significant growth during the 18 months prior, when revenue quadrupled. [7]

Later, in July 2020, Avail received another $4.2 million investment from Cultivation Capital, bringing their total funding to $9.7 million since 2017.[8]

In December 2020, Realtor.com® announced its plans to acquire Avail. David Doctorow, the CEO of Realtor.com, explained the acquisition as a strategic move aligned with the company’s pre-existing goal to “make finding a home easier and more rewarding.”[1]

Features[edit]

Avail’s platform offers several features, including rental listing syndication and maintenance tracking. It also provides solutions for rent collection, tenant screening, and more via integrations with Transunion and Plaid (company).

Housing Research[edit]

In partnership with Realtor.com, Avail produces real estate industry research[9] on a national scale, including 27,850 zip codes and 930 metropolitan areas.[citation needed] These reports identify market trends such as affordability and cross market demand.[10]

The data and insights from their research is used to inform housing policy makers via monthly updates with White House advisors. The information from these reports is also regularly quoted by acclaimed leaders in research such as the United States Census Bureau and the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative, as well as a variety of major press outlets.[11] [12] [13]
