Avi Bachenheimer (/bɑːxɛnhaɪmɛr/; 26 March 1985) is an Australian linguist, historian and archaeologist of the ancient Near East. Since 2018, he has served as the head of Research Centre at the Institute for the Study of Ancient Iranian Society and Culture.[1] Bachenheimer has been a recipient of the Pilot Project Award from ISAISC in 2017[2] for Project Vashna: Database of Iranian Archaeological Sites.[3]
Biography[edit]
Avi Bachenheimer was educated at The University of Western Australia (2015 and 2017) in History and Archaeology under Professor Brian Bosworth, completing his thesis on the Unfinished Tomb of Darius III, which at that point was being explored for the first time since its discovery.[4]
He has formerly taught as the chief researcher of Near Eastern languages at the Central Institute of Technology,[5] focusing on languages such as Aramaic, Biblical Hebrew and Old Persian. As an editor of Iranian Conservation Science Journal, Bachenheimer's cooperation with the National Museum of Iran and UNESCO World Heritage Center, has resulted in execution of collaborative joint projects.[6]
Bachenheimer's publications on topics relating to the history and archaeology of the ancient Near East are numerous, including titles on the syntax and phonology of Old Persian language[7] and archaeological studies on Gur-e-Dokhtar, Chasht-Khor and the Unfinished Tomb of Darius III at Persepolis.[8] His contributions to the field of Near Eastern studies are often referred to as significant.[9]
