Aviatia Magazin (sometimes stylised Aviația Magazin, AviatiaMagazin or AviatiaMagazin.com) is one of the first Romanian‑language online news outlets focused on aviation, covering military, civil and general aviation topics in Romania and worlwide. It was founded on 13 June 2011 by journalist Marius Doroftei.[1][2]
History
The website was launched in 2013, when the Romanian media market was dominated in the aviation segment by aviatia.ro platform[3]. The very first article published was an interview with the Romanian aerobatic team “Iacării Acrobați” leader, pilot Dan Ștefănescu, on July 13th[4].
Since the launch of the platform, more than 4,800 articles were published during the first 14 years of activity. In addition, Aviatia Magazin was media partner and co-organizer at the most important aviation events in Romania, like Bucharest International Air Show, Aeronautic Show, Black Sea Defense & Aerospace, Tuzla Airshow, AeroNautic Show and others.[5][6][7]
Content and platforms
In addition to the main website, Aviatia Magazin operates several support social media channels, with shared and independent content:
- A YouTube account that hosts video reports and live streams, with about 6,900 subscribers as of 2025;[8]
- A Facebook page followed by roughly 18,000 users, used for real‑time news updates and photo galleries;
- A SoundCloud podcast series branded “AvNews”, focusing on regional aerospace developments.[9]
Editorial sections include industry news, military analysis, pilot interviews, aviation history and military and geopolitic analisys. Based on Google Analytics data, the website has, in average, 100,000 views per month.
Reception and impact
Aviatia Magazin has been cited by national[10][11][12][13][14][15][16] [17][18] and international[19][20][21] outlets as a specialist source on Romanian aviation matters.
The Romania Journal referenced the site when reporting the Romanian Intelligence Service’s 2023 contract for Airbus helicopters[22], and Hungarian-language daily Maszol[23] and Bukaresti Rádió[24] credited Aviatia Magazin for information on the retirement of MiG‑21 Lancer fighters from the Romanian Air Force in January 2023.
