Avilar Technologies Inc. is a U.S.-based EdTech company which provides web-based competency management, workforce optimization and learning management solutions.[1][2]

History

Avilar was founded in 1997 by Paul Maresca and Thomas Grobicki. The company has headquarters in Columbia, Maryland, U.S. It is a privately held for-profit company traded as Avilar Technologies Inc.[3]

In May 2008, Thomas Grobicki, who served as Chief technology officer, was appointed as the CEO of Avilar.[4]

Avilar Technologies was awarded a contract worth 6.6 million USD by the Instituto Latinoamericano de la Comunicación Educativa to provide an e-learning platform to serve as a comprehensive system for monitoring and assessing the competencies of teachers and students, in addition to addressing other educational requirements.[2]

Avilar offers a range of software products including their flagship WebMentor product line, which was originally introduced in 1998.[1] WebMentor includes a complete suite of competency development and management tools. WebMentor LMS was the first Learning management system (LMS) to receive a certificate of compliance for SCORM 1.2 issued by the Academic ADL Co-Lab in Madison, WI.[5]

Awards

Avilar is the recipient of the Excellence in E-Learning for Customer Satisfaction award from Brandon Hall Group and E-Learning Magazine in September 2001.[6]
