AxisB (Korean: 아시즈비; stylized as AxisB) is a South Korean boy group under independent label AxB Entertainment. The group is composed of five members: Junghoon, Daeyoung, Doah, Juno and Honey.
They marked their South Korean debut through the release of their first digital single "Curious" (묘해) on September 28, 2016 via various music sites.[1][2] The group name is a combination of the words Axis (center; 중심) and B (from Boys) to show their readiness to become a boy group at the heart of the music industry.[3]
History[edit]
Pre-debut[edit]
FameUS hiatus[edit]
On July 17, 2016, KN Media announced the hiatus of their 6-member boy group, FameUS, and indicated that the members are scheduled to start personal and unit group activities soon.[4] The day after, July 19, former FameUS member (now AxisB member) Doah posted an update on his Instagram[5] with an apology to fans for the sudden announcement and revealed that along with two other FameUS members, Junghoon and Daeyoung, they are scheduled to start activities as a new unit called AxisB.
KN Media confirmed this announcement with an additional notice[6] on July 21 regarding the activities of AxisB and the remaining members not part of AxisB, Kudo and Hanyoung. While the three members are actively promoting with AxisB, Kudo decided to focus on getting treatment for his injured shoulder while Hanyoung decided to pursue a solo career in Japan.
Start of Activities as AxisB[edit]
Prior to their official debut in September 2016, AxisB already garnered the attention of international K-pop fans as they shared the stage with senior K-Pop groups VIXX and INFINITE at the Baidu Nuomi Music Festival in Nanjing, China on July 23, 2016.[7] The group went on to perform their title song Curious during their first public performance in South Korea at Dongdaemun Migliore Amphitheatre on July 31, 2016.[7] This was also their first performance as a complete group as Honey was not able to join them in China due to prior engagements.
2016: Debut with Curious (묘해)[edit]
From September 3 to November 1, 2016, AxisB had their first round of shows in Japan at Showbox in Shin-Okubo, Tokyo, Japan. It was during this period that the group released their first digital single Curious (묘해) in South Korea through digital music sites, marking their entry into the South Korean music market despite only actively promoting in Japan. The group had their second Japan Promotional Tour from December 10, 2016 to February 5, 2017.
Curious is a song with an urban medium dance pop genre with impressive lyrics describing the push-and-pull relationship between a man and a woman who are both playing clueless and hard to get. The song's refrain particularly talks about the feeling of dating in their 20s, and has a refreshing vibe to it.[3]
On November 30, 2016, AxisB announced their First Philippine Promotional Tour, scheduled for February 14 to March 5, 2017, through their official Facebook page. The Philippine tour covers five key cities: Manila, Cebu, Bacolod, Iloilo and Davao.[8]
2017: Overseas Activities (Philippines and Japan)[edit]
From February 14 to March 5, 2017, AxisB staged their First Philippine Promotional Tour through five key cities: Manila, Cebu, Bacolod, Iloilo and Davao. It was also during this period that their Japan debut was decided.
AxisB's first Japanese single, a Japanese version of their original Be My Love single, is to be released on July 12, 2017 through Tower Records.
This single is produced by Real Bro Sounds (진짜사나이) in collaboration with Urban Hz (어반헤르츠), producers who have left a mark in various fields through creating classic masterpieces for JYJ's Kim Jaejoong, B2ST and APink's Skinny Baby, KBS2's Immortal Songs 2, SBS drama "To The Beautiful You" OST, various CFs and more. This time around, they have created a masterpiece for AxisB that invokes a cute, lovely pop sound that listeners cannot help but fall in love with.[9]
