Ayo Alonge

Ayo John Alonge is a Nigerian librarian and information scientist. He is a lecturer in the Department of Library, Archival & Information Studies (LARIS), Faculty of Education, University of Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. He received a CPD Award/sponsorship for training at the University of Pretoria in 2015. [1] He also won the award for the Most Innovative Library-Based ICT Project of the Year in 2009 by the Nigerian Library Association. He is described as a globally acclaimed scholar. [2] [3]

Early life and education

Ayo Alonge is a native of Orokere-Amuro in Mopamuro LGA, Kogi State, Nigeria. [1] He wrote his Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) (English Language & Political Science) in 1999. [4] He had his first degree from the Department of Library, Archival and Information Studies, University of Ibadan, Nigeria where he obtained his Bachelor of Library and Information Studies (B.LIS) in 2005. He then proceeded for his Master's Degree in Publishing and Copyright Studies (MPCS) at the same University in 2008. He traveled to Kenya for further studies and obtained a Ph.D. in Communication and Information Studies from the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, University of Nairobi, Kenya in 2017. Dr. Ayo John Alonge won a Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa (CARTA) Ph.D. Fellowship March 2014 – February 2018. [8] Ayo was sponsored for the Carnegie Corporation of New York – CPD Award – the University of Pretoria in 2015. He is married. [4] [5]

Career

Dr. Ayo is a Certified Librarian of Nigeria (CLN). He started his career at KPMG Nigeria where he worked as a Librarian and Social Media Coordinator in 2013. He is a Fellow of the Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa (CARTA), Nairobi Kenya. [5] He has participated in and presented papers at many local and international conferences. He presented lectures and read citations of scholars at events. One of such activities was the description of the University of Ibadan (UI) Vice Chancellor, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka on his 62nd birthday. [9]

Being an ICT professional, Dr. Ayo Alonge supports digital initiatives with access to all kinds of information for transparency even in governance. [10] He was featured on the "Quarantine Diary of Information Professionals", a YouTube channel that gives visibility on the life of information professionals during the COVID-19 crisis. The information is shared by professionals all over the world by the BA Library Sector. [11]

His research areas include Digital Library, e-Library, Information Technologies in Libraries, Health Information Systems, Health Communication, new media, Social media for communication, and e-Pub Graduate Fellow listing. [7]

Research funding

Dr. Ayo received the Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa (CARTA) with the theme: The impact of Nollywood Movies on Awareness Creation about HIV and Risky Sexual Behaviours among in-school youths in Nigeria. This was conducted in Lagos, Oyo, and Osun states for secondary students between the ages of 12 and 16 years for the analysis of sexual messages and scenes as they concern Nollywood Movies. The study recommended public health intervention and proper monitoring by parents and guardians to avoid the wrong perception of sexual practices by the students. [12] [13]
