Ayshia Muezzin a.k.a [ a y s h ] (born July, 1986) is a British Cypriot Intermedia artist using printmaking, sculpture, Hi/Lo Tech, New Media, Live Art, Video, 3D and 2D methods in her artwork as well as the blockchain space.[1]

Early Life[edit]

Ayshia studied Intermedia and Contemporary Art Practice at The University of Edinburgh. She develops collaborative projects using interdisciplinary methods from improvised performances, collaborative New Media and video pieces.[2] Her curatorial style focuses on bringing diverse artists together, whether emerging or mid-career, and utilises non-hierarchical and explorative methods merged with technology in the form of virtual and crypto shows on emerging platforms like OnCyber and VRChat.[3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11]

Ayshia developed the concept of 'Cypro-Futurism' in 2019 which explores the intersection of technology with Cyprus and its deep intertwining relationship with Levantine, Near Eastern, Anatolian and African mythology and culture. Themes include Techno-culture, Cyber-culture, Future-studies, Sci-Fi, Cyborg empowerment, Neo-Fluxus and Cyber Feminism. Works continuing with the Cypro-Futurist theme include 'Aphrodite's Spaceship-Ishtar's Space Pod', 'The Anamurai Prophesy' and her Crypto-NFT piece 'L1l1' on KnownOrigin.[12][13]

Between 2017-21, Ayshia produced social-media based happenings inspired by Dick Higgins Intermedia writings on computers and in 2021, performed the first durational 'Blockchain Happening' on the Hicetnunc (XTZ) Tezos cryptocurrency platform. In the same year she also minted the first NFT Fluxus Box 'The FluxBox - [Batch #KO1]' on KnownOrigin.[14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27][28][29][30]

The Anonymous Train Artist project ran from 2016 to 2018, featured on BBC Timeline in 2017 and was funded by ScotRail to engage with the public through drawing. The project consisted of Ayshia drawing 500 illustrations which were either given to strangers, exchanged or left on the train.[31][32]

Ayshia’s works showcased at Glasgow International, Venice Surfaces Festival, The Festival of Contemporary Art in Athens, Ely Centre for Contemporary Art, Screen-print Biennial, and the Transcultural Exchange in Boston, Turkey, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Taos, New Mexico, UK and many web-based biennales like the noemata.net, Berlin-UK Arthousehause, MoWNA Biennial and Performative Mundane Acts of the Everyday“, Dfbrll8r Gallery at Zhou B Art Center, Chicago, USA.[33][34][35][36][37][38][39][40][41][42][43][44][45][46][47][48][49][50][51][52][53]
