Azheekal Fishing Harbour

Azheekal Fishing Harbour is located near Azheekal in the Kollam district of Kerala. The name "Azheekal" comes from the Malayalam word "Aazhee", which means "confluence".[1]
Management and development
The Danish Bureau of Harbours is in charge of the construction and upkeep of the harbor.[2]
- Modernization and Funding: The harbor is funded by the State and Central Government, whose engagement in modernization and development projects could acquire funding through the Prince Modri Matsya Sampada Yojana, NABARD, etc.[3][4]
- Maintenance dredging: Due to the location, dredging must take place and be carried out on a regular basis to maintain sufficient depth for fishing boats in the harbor. This is a necessary conduct and operation of the State Government.[5]

The Azheekal Fishing Harbour has importance to the local economy based on fishing.
- Contribution of fisheries: The harbour offers favourable conditions for fishing vessels, thus supporting the local fishing community and enhancing fish production in the district.[6]
- Provision of infrastructures: The harbour has several necessary infrastructures such as auction halls, ice and cold storage, storage, etc. To assist fishermen in maintaining the freshness and value.[2]
