Azurée Lyman (born November 5, 1986) is an American filmmaker, director and screenwriter.

Lyman was born in Jersey City, N.J., to an African-American father and Italian-American mother. Lyman’s parents separated when she was a child and she moved with her mother to Yorkville, a diverse Manhattan neighborhood bordered by the affluent Upper East Side and gritty East Harlem. Lyman has said her upbringing in Yorkville, where she hung out with the rich kids and street kids all coming together to escape and bond, heavily influenced her filmmaking and subject matter in her work.

Lyman attended Talent Unlimited High School, a Performing Arts High School on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, where she trained in music, acting and dancing. She briefly attended Borough of Manhattan Community College where she discovered her talent for producing and directing films According to Lyman it was her mentor, cinematographer and VICELAND associate producer Messiah Rhodes, that got her into filmmaking.

In 2014, Lyman made her directorial debut in The Myth Beyond Fifth, a feature length documentary about the diverse performers and musical talent emerging from the often overlooked Manhattan neighborhood, Yorkville.[1] She has also worked in production team of Jazzie Belle TV.

In 2015, Lyman served as an assistant director on Conjure, a short film produced by Terra Luke Media.[2]

Lyman has directed several music videos and shot for several renowned New York artists such as Nitty Scott. In 2016 she started her production and media company, FilmChickway, to direct music videos, commercials and viral videos for up and coming brands.

In 2016, Lyman announced she would be writing, producing, and directing her next project, a drama loosely based on her life which will focus on a group of friends from diverse socio-economic backgrounds coming of age in Yorkville. It was also announced in 2016 that Lyman will direct a yet-to-be-named documentary showcasing the new wave of up and coming hip hop artists in New York, as they battle their way from the underground to stardom.
