Azur Kamara (born November 26, 1998) is an American football linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at the University of Kansas.
Early career[edit]
Kamara moved to the United States at 10 years old after spending the early part of his childhood living on the Ivory Coast in Western Africa. His mother fled the nation in the midst of the First Ivorian Civil War. The young Kamara was moved to a foreign land and had to learn how to speak English as well as a new life. [1] Despite not playing football until high school, Kamara racked up 25.5 sacks in one season of high school football. [1]
College career[edit]
Kamara would attend Arizona Western College for two seasons. In his rookie season in 2016, he would have 45 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, 2 fumbles (4 recovered), 8 sacks. The next year Kamara would have played 10 games as a sophomore, recording 30 total tackles, with 12.5 sacks, 15.5 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, and a pass breakup.[2][1] After receiving many offers, including offers from Iowa State and Louisville, Kamara would commit to Kansas State in 2018. [3]
In his first year in Kansas, Kamara would play defensive end. He would play 7 games and collect 12 solo tackles, 4 tackles for loss, and a sack. [4] 2019 would be Kamara's best as he would play 12 games for total 51 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, and 4 sacks. [5] Kamara was named Honorable Mention All-Big 12 his senior year, along with earning several academic honors. [6]
Professional Career[edit]
2020[edit]
Azur Kamara would go undrafted in the 2020 NFL Draft. The Dallas Cowboys would sign Kamara to a contract. [7] On August 1, 2021, Kamara was waived with an injury settlement,but was back on injury reserve the next day, ending his rookie season without touching the field. [8]
Personal Life[edit]
Kamara is the son of Djaka Bility and Noah Sherrif. Kamara has four sisters; Fatu and Amie Kamara and Mahawa and Makura Sherrif.As well as two brothers, Adam and Omar Sherrif. [9]
