Azure Pharmaceuticals is a national pharmaceutical and healthcare company. The company has products in therapeutic areas, and manufactures formulations, generic drugs, vaccines, nutritionals, OTC as affordable healthcare products in India.[1] [2] It came into existence in 1999. The company’s products range across all common and alarming health problems, serving every rural and remote area of India.[3][4]
History
Azure Pharmaceuticals came into existence in the 1990s. Research found infection due to contaminated water and food, and pneumonia was also very common, like polio in India. But proper medication was not available everywhere, and thousands of people were suffering, with many dying from critical infections and a lack of available medication.[5] [6] So, Azure Pharmaceuticals was established and came to light when it controlled this situation by developing new formulations and ensuring their ample supply to all areas of India.[7]
Azure launched two highly effective formulations in tablet form under their brand name.
In the 2000s, Azure researched and found malnutrition in children and issues related to healthy pregnancy in mothers. A large section of medication for pregnancy complications was introduced into the healthcare sector, and it also launched India’s first L-methylfolate formulation with iron for the prevention of IDA in pregnancy. It established its Azure gynocare subsidiary in 2009.[8][9]
With a focus on just one area, Azure then expanded to whole India to minimise the use of heavy pain killer injections and tablets with greater side effects. Azure Pharmaceuticals was the first to launch piroxicam in a sublingual tablet.[10]
Azure made GMP certified and WHO certified products available for export from India.
