Béla Floncz
Béla Floncz (born April 12,1912) served as a Hungarian soldier in World War II. Born in a small village, he and his brothers lived in poverty with their parents who worked as farmers. Only one of his four brothers lived to be one year of age. During the First World War, his father died and, as a result, at the age of eight, Béla lost her mother, who was killed by the 'flu. He then went to live with his uncle in Budapest. His brother (István) worked as a carpenter and later Floncz adopted this profession. In 1942 he was sold to a soldier but later escaped and fled to a nearby forest. He hunted everyday. The war ended, but Béla was not aware of this. He thought he had to escape from the woods so he could continue fighting in the war. He built a small house, hunting animals including wild boars and roe deer. In 1950, his incredible story ended when a team of hikers found him in 1982. He later died of cancer.[1]
