BASIC (institute)
The Bahamas Advanced Study Institute, and the associated Conferences ("BASIC"), were informally established in 2016 by Physics Professors Thomas Curtright (University of Miami) and Eduardo Guendelman (Ben Gurion University), aiming to establish a forum in the tropics for studies in theoretical physics and related fields, in an English language environment, with relative ease of access from points within the United States. Research was to be carried out by conference and workshop participants, by other short-term visitors, and eventually by long-term members of the Institute.
Soon after establishment, BASIC held its inaugural winter workshop at Stella Maris, Long Island, Bahamas, in 2016. Conferences and workshops have been held each year since 2016 (with the exception of 2021), all at Stella Maris.
