BDA Partners is a cross-border investment banking firm, headquartered in New York, with offices in London and across Asia. BDA advises primarily on transactions involving Asia. The company was founded in 1996 and was initially known as Business Development Asia, often abbreviated as BDA, until 2015. BDA provides advisory services for M&A (mergers & acquisitions), capital raising, and restructuring, to blue-chip corporate and financial sponsor clients from North America, Europe and Asia.
BDA is headquartered in New York, with offices in London, Dubai, Mumbai, Ho Chi Minh City, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Singapore, Seoul and Tokyo. BDA carries out its US securities business through BDA Advisors Inc., a broker-dealer registered with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and a member of FINRA and SIPC. BDA’s UK subsidiary is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).[3][5][6]
BDA was named Investment Banking Firm of the Year at the ACG Champion’s Awards in both 2014 and 2015.
Historically BDA worked mostly in old-line industries such as Automotive, Chemicals and Industrials, but the firm has increasingly also found success in sectors Consumer and Luxury, Retail and Restaurants, Agribusiness, Healthcare, Technology including Digital Media, and Services.
BDA's clients have included financial sponsors such as Bain Capital, Cerberus, CITIC Capital Partners, EQT Partners, GTCR, Investcorp, Littlejohn, Platinum Equity, and Warburg Pincus.[7] BDA has also worked for corporates such as Doosan, DuPont, Ecolab, Henkel, International Paper, Johnson Controls, Kimberly-Clark, Kolon, Pfizer, Tata International, Terex, and Thomson Reuters.[7]
History[edit]
BDA (formerly known as Business Development Asia) was founded by Euan Rellie and Charles Maynard in 1996. Andrew Huntley joined as its third partner in 1998. All three remain active partners, overseeing BDA's operations.[3][8]
In 2011, BDA formed a partnership with William Blair & Company.[9] William Blair and BDA's alliance was designed to create a global middle-market presence, with a combined 230 bankers in 16 offices across nine countries.
BDA itself employs 75 bankers, supplemented by senior advisors around the world. BDA advertises itself as the "leading independent pan-Asian M&A advisory firm."
